When is your real birthday?

When is your real birthday?

Leap year babies!

In A Time For Everything, Michael is a leap year baby born on Feb 28th.

I became obsessed with when he should celebrate his birthday. And google had a lot of answers and theories on this one, and it's way more complicated than I ever imagined!

Apparently there is a difference between the hours in the day, and the time it takes for the earth's rotation to complete a full day. IDK, but these guys here, explain it way better that I can.

So of course, if you are a leap year baby you can celebrate your birthday any time you choose, and The usual days are of course the day before, the 28th Feb, or the day after, March 1st.

But when I researched birthdays, the time you were born plays a huge importance of when your annual birthday is. Because your birthday is 365.3 days after you were born, not necessarily a calendar year. So I made it complicated for Michael that the time was born, then impacted what time his birthday officially starts each year. Keeping him on his toes, along with travelling in time zones, as to when his time travel friend Audrey would show up for the day.

Then it got me thinking. One of my friends birthdays is on March 1st. So on leap years, she had to wait a whole extra day to celebrate her birthday! What's that all about! The universe doesn't have our calendars at its disposal, so when is her real birthday? Or anyone's real birthday on a leap year?

Maybe we should just celebrate like a kid and have a whole week of 'it's my birthday' vines going on.
